Dr. Leo Selker talks about the work being performed at the NorthShore Research Institute.
The NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) Research Institute is recognized internationally for translational research that takes basic science from the laboratory directly to the patient’s bedside and the community. Our ability to bring new therapies rapidly into our hospitals and medical offices distinguishes NorthShore from other institutions.
NorthShore Research Institute is ranked 9th in the nation for Comprehensive Independent Research Hospitals that receive National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. At the state level, NorthShore is again the No. 1 ranked Independent Research Hospital in Illinois. NorthShore is in the top 7 percent of all institutions receiving NIH funds.
Approximately 1,000 active clinical trial studies are housed at NorthShore, which focus on a range of conditions, including cancer, neurologic disorders and stroke, cardiovascular disorders, dermatologic issues, pediatric and gynecologic conditions as well as major clinical trial programs in advanced imaging and medical genetics.
The NorthShore Clinical Trials Center provides training for investigators and staff at all levels of experience as well as infrastructure and administrative assistance to support clinical trials. Further, through its interaction with NorthShore’s departmental and division physicians and staff, the Center facilitates the development of an integrated, nationally recognized center of excellence in clinical trial research.
The Clinical Research Center, established in 2010, strengthens our flourishing clinical trials program. It is enabling NorthShore to expand its participation into even more studies and supports physicians pursuing this important area of research. NorthShore’s award-winning electronic medical record (EMR) system and its Center for Clinical Research Informatics will support early identification of study participants.
Your support enables our physician scientists to blaze medical frontiers, cure challenging diseases through clinical trials and improve patient outcomes. Our commitment to promoting groundbreaking discoveries and speeding their translation from the laboratory to the bedside prove each day that “research is the best medicine.”
